In the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama was the first presidential candidate to reject Public Funding in the general election since the program began in 1976. Republicans have now introduced several bills geared to ending the public funding system altogether. Ironically, though, both parties have accepted Public Funding to finance their 2012 nominating conventions. | ||||||||||
