STATEMENT:

My work can be described as utilitarian teapots, each with a unique character, displaying influences from the Yixing ceramic tradition as well as my practice of the Chinese Martial Arts.  My practice has provided me with an understanding of the concept and use of Chi – Chinese for “essence” or “spirit” – which is an important component of my working style.  I think that objects can gain life not only through the hands of their maker, but also through use.   In response to this, I feel that the best one is the one that speaks to the viewer; drawing enough attention to become a growing part of an ongoing experience.
